Abstract

This case study aimed to investigate the relationship of administrators' leadership styles and employee engagement. To this end, we used the reduced and modified Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire (MLQ), which contained twenty-five statements that represent the nine leadership factors. It also measured the relationship between the employee-respondents' and administrators' perceptions of their administrators and their level of employee engagement. The results showed that five elements of transformational leadership styles have significant correlation with overall employee engagement and to at least one of the employee engagement aspects, and these are idealized influence (attributed), idealised influence (behavior), inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individualized consideration. This study also learned that active management by exception and laissez-faire leadership style have no significant positive relationship with employee engagement. The company should also review and improve its present rewards system and incentive programs which managers can use in influencing subordinates at work. The firm should also devise and regularly implement leadership training programs which can enhance managers' leadership skills and styles.
